THE MESSAGE IN FULL IS AS FOLLOWS:

January 10, 2020

Dear Tec Community,

As the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end”, which I quote now to inform you that, as of July 1 of this year, David Garza Salazar will become President of Tecnológico de Monterrey. He replaces Salvador Alva, who is retiring after eight years of a great transformation that has strengthened the Tec’s academic quality, positioning us as a leading institution in educational innovation worldwide and helping us climb up the international rankings. Moreover, as you know, Tecmilenio University has become the first positive university in the world, and TecSalud is an innovative academic medical system aimed at changing health practices.

This is a succession planned years ago as part of our process of institutional governance, hand in hand with our Board and Salvador himself. We designed it to guarantee the continuity of our 2030 Strategic Plan, renewing our commitment at the start of a decade that promises enormous challenges and opportunities.

Salvador has been the engine behind a great transformation to enhance the original vision of our founders 76 years ago. His vision, leadership, and courage to do what few would dare attempt in the sphere of educational institutions is a tribute to the enterprising and humanistic vision of Don Eugenio Garza Sada.

For his part, David is the ideal substitute, as he is a leader who is strong, well-loved, and respected at our institution, which he joined in 1985. Today, he is a key member of the management team and, as you know, he was a leading figure in the design and execution of the new Tec21 Educational Model. For more than 34 years at the Tec, he has held different academic and managerial positions, specifically as Research and Postgraduate Director, Dean of Information Technologies and Electronics, Director-General of San Luis Potosí Campus, Rector of the Metropolitan Zone of Monterrey, and Vice Rector of the Professional Area, focused on improving the quality of students and teachers. He was later appointed Academic Vice Rector of the Institution and has held the position of Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey since July 2017.

Over this first semester of 2020, Salvador will remain at the head of this institution until July 1, working together with David and our committed leadership team to ensure a successful transition, maintaining the focus on short-term goals, consolidation of the new educational model, and preparing the organization to pursue the new dream that we have enshrined in the 2030 Strategic Plan.

I ask you to join us in congratulating David on his appointment, as well as his wife Claudia and their four children Claudia Marcela, Alejandro Daniel, Andrés Fernando, and Sara Elisa.

“IT’S BEEN A PRIVILEGE”

On his official Facebook account, Salvador Alva expressed his gratitude for the transformation he has had the opportunity to lead at the Tec.

“I feel very emotional, as the time has come to for a transition from the role I’ve held at the Tec.

“It’s been a privilege to be here these eight years at the head of this Institution of wonderful people who are committed to educational innovation,” he said.

ALUMNI INVITED TO COLLABORATE IN THIS NEW STAGE

Juan Pablo Murra, Vice President of Tec Relations and Development, the area in charge of relations with the institution’s alumni, also sent a message to the EXATEC community.

“We share the Board’s confidence that, encouraged by David’s leadership and the support of the entire community, we will be able to consolidate the important progress made in transforming the Tec (...)

I invite you to join me in celebrating and congratulating David on the important responsibility he has taken on.”
