Tec de Monterrey and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a social impact agreement to teach people digital skills on cloud platforms, with a focus on training women.

This partnership agreement was signed during AWS Summit 2023, an event that brings together cloud enthusiasts in Mexico City for learning, networking, and training opportunities.

Courses will begin on September 30 using Liderly, a platform provided by the Tec Digital Academy, and will last 3 hours.

According to Jorge Azzario, Director of the Tec Digital Academy, “We are both committed to closing the digital talent gap in Mexico and Latin America. This joint effort will not only close the gap but will also develop the roles and clouds of the future.”

Details of the agreement between Amazon Web Services and Tec de Monterrey

A previous partnership agreement between Amazon and the Tec, signed in 2020, had a different scope. It focused on testing certain tools and specific research questions, said Azzario.

However, this new partnership agreement is specifically aimed at digital skills training on cloud platforms.

The partnership responds to the urgent need to close the talent gap in the region. According to the World Economic Forum, more than 75% of companies want to adopt cloud computing, Big Data, and artificial intelligence (AI) within the next five years.

“If this isn’t addressed quickly, there could be 2.5 million unfilled jobs by 2026 due to the current lack of training in this area,” explains Carolina Piña, Head of Enterprise Enablement at AWS, who signed the partnership agreement on behalf of Amazon.

This partnership will provide content, certifications, and training to the Tec community and the general public for free.

The agreement will combine cloud-based training with the rest of the Tec’s learning and employability platforms, including Liderly from the Tec Digital Academy.

Discovery Day, or the first massive training session

“We’re signing this partnership agreement today and the first benefits for our community will be felt within the next 10 days,” Azzario shared with CONECTA.

September 30 will be “Discovery Day”, a massive free training session for those who want to learn more about cloud technology.

The director invites readers to follow Tec de Monterrey’s social media accounts and register on the liderly.com website for more information.

Discovery Day will provide the first massive training session on basic cloud knowledge; it will last 3 hours and answer the following questions:

  • What is the cloud and why is it important?
  • How is it set up?
  • How can I access it?
  • What type of resources can be kept there?
  • How is information organized?
  • How secure is it?
  • What are the best ways to get the most out of it?
  • How is the cloud related to physical infrastructure around the world?
  • How can I get the most out of this type of technology?
  • When would you need to combine two clouds?

“Participants will receive an overview and get their first taste of concepts that are fully valid for clouds from many other technology providers,” says Jorge.

In the coming months, there will be opportunities for specialized training; cloud certifications for experts; and training focused on women, women entrepreneurs, and SMEs.

Reducing the digital divide in Mexico

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has made a global commitment to train 29 million people by 2025, which is why they looked for a strategic partner in Tec de Monterrey.

Before establishing this partnership agreement, the Tec had in fact already trained more than 2,000 people through its The Learning Gate program: 300 professors; 500 students from the School of Engineering and Sciences and the Business School; and more than 1,200 people in continuing education programs.
