Tecnológico de Monterrey has set up the Emergency Student Fund to offer extraordinary measures of a temporary nature to families in its community who have been affected by the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re aware that this crisis has caused a significant economic impact on many sectors of society, including job losses.
“Self-isolation and social distancing measures are slowing down the growth of different businesses, industries, and whole sectors. This means that some Tec families will be affected more acutely,” said Rector David Garza in a message sent to students and their parents.
WHAT’S THIS FUND FOR?
The purpose of this fund is to prevent students from Tec de Monterrey having to interrupt their studies for financial reasons due to the COVID-19 emergency.
WHO’S IT FOR?
For students who really need it because their families are facing harsh financial circumstances.
WHAT WILL IT COVER?
These measures will include the waiving of default interest, extraordinary student loans and scholarships, and deferred payment programs.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE FUND?
The process will involve families applying for support. They will be asked to present their specific case for consideration.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR SUPPORT?
A help desk will be opened through the MiTec student website, where attention will be provided in a responsive and personalized manner as of April 6.
“The emergency we’re experiencing is putting us all to the test. Today, more than ever, those who really look after the interests of their communities do so with leadership, transparency, and solidarity.
“At Tecnológico de Monterrey, we aspire to possess these qualities, seeing adversity as an opportunity to make our community stronger, more united, and an example of resilience and inspiration,” says David Garza, rector of Tec de Monterrey.
The rector also invited the community to join this cause.
“For those wishing to offer their support with donations, this is an important time for the Tec to receive their generosity,” he added.
The rector urged them to follow the recommendations of the authorities and to consult the latest news from the Tec about the emergency through its different channels.
“I hope that you can find strength and greater communion with your loved ones in these difficult times,” he concluded.
