The first stone of this new space was laid in the Monterrey Innovation District at a ceremony to mark the start of construction.

“It will be a lodestone, a center of attraction, and above all, a center for innovation that we expect to have a major impact,” said the Tec’s Executive President David Garza.

“We invite the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Monterrey, Nuevo León, and Mexico to reach out to Tec de Monterrey because we’re going to do wonderful things,” he added.

The first stone of the new space for innovation

A ceremony was held to lay the first stone on February 12 to start construction of this new space, which aims to be the epicenter for meetups, exchange, and connection for all stakeholders connected with innovation.

To symbolize the first stone, artist Ernesto Walker provided a transparent artwork, illuminated in different colors to represent future members of its community.

Ricardo Saldívar, Chairman of Tec de Monterrey’s Board of Directors, said that this project will drive the creativity and energy of those who dream of transforming the world.

“We’re here to start construction of a space that will mark a turning point in the way we support talent in our country. We want it to be a beacon for encountering community, learning, and support at every stage of the way,” he said.

Tec Rector Juan Pablo Murra explained that this new building would not only be open to the university community but also to all those aspiring to a life of enterprise.

“We believe that this is going to be a space not only for students and professors from the Tec community but also a space for anyone with the capacity to innovate, to create, to be inspired, and who believes they can build something with others.

“The idea is to attract more and better talent from among students, professors, and entrepreneurs who can help change the culture and help us change our behaviors to do things differently and better,” he remarked.

This space will join the recently inaugurated EXPEDITION FEMSA, which focuses on research and sits right next to it, where the student halls of residence were located.

The new space is expected to be completed in the first semester of 2026.

Space for fostering talent

Eduardo Garza T., honorary president of Frisa Industrias, donated the building.

During the ceremony, Garza T. said that this deed is one way of giving back what his alma mater of Tec de Monterreygave him during his seven years at the institution.

“It’s a space designed to foster talent, creativity, and the entrepreneurial spirit of all the students at this great university.

“This place will provide suitable tools and support for ideas to become reality, inspiring our students and new generations to innovate, start businesses, and work passionately to create the wealth this country needs,” he said.

Édgar Muñiz, Director of Strategic Projects in the Monterrey Innovation District, said that this hub is a space for connection, outreach, and meetups for entrepreneurs, companies, organizations, and stakeholders in the areas of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

“Entrepreneurs will be able to develop high-impact projects from high-fidelity prototypes, they’ll be able to create connections with important stakeholders, and most importantly, there’ll be an ecosystem focused on working through learning communities,” he said.

He explained the three areas that the Eduardo Garza T. Innovation and Entrepreneurship HUB aims to promote:

  1. Education: Projects that transform the industry or the educational ecosystem
  2. Health: Projects focused on improving the outlook for obesity
  3. Sustainability: Projects that contribute to sustainability

It will have spaces to encourage collaboration in the areas of connection, recreation, inspiration, and creation, ensuring that every part of the hub is aimed at promoting creativity and innovation.

These spaces include a prototyping lab and a biosciences workshop, as well as areas for mentoring and networking.

Interconnecting with the Monterrey Innovation District

Connection, competencies, and knowledge come together in the Monterrey Innovation District, a zone comprising Monterrey campus, the EXPEDITION FEMSA space, and the forthcoming Eduardo Garza T. Innovation and Entrepreneurship HUB.

“The Innovation and Entrepreneurship HUB complements the Monterrey Innovation District, which began with EXPEDITION FEMSA, activating an ecosystem that we want people to experience around Monterrey campus.

“It will be a place to live in a knowledge environment, with scientists, startups, entrepreneurs, and corporations, where (…) we generate solutions for Monterrey, Mexico, and the world,” said Mario Adrián Flores, Vice President of the Monterrey region and General Director of Monterrey campus.

This new space will be open to the public.

“It’s going to have some areas for public space, where people can enter certain parts of these new spaces and connect with the community openly.

“The community can come into this research and innovation environment, although it will chiefly be for students, professors, and scientists who have ideas and projects,” he added.

New home of the Eugenio Garza Lagüera Institute of Entrepreneurship

The Eduardo Garza T. Innovation and Entrepreneurship HUB will be the new home of the Eugenio Garza Lagüera Institute of Entrepreneurship.

“This is a significant step for us because it will be our most important center of operations and a destination for all our entrepreneurs, students, and staff.

“It confirms the Tec’s mission and its commitment to entrepreneurship alongside the ecosystem and to continue driving applied innovation, focused on the transformation of our communities,” said Ulrick Noel, Director of the Eugenio Garza Lagüera Institute of Entrepreneurship.

“We want it to be a beacon for encountering community, learning, and support at every stage of the way.” – Ricardo Saldívar, Chairman of the Board at Tec de Monterrey

The new space will also have one lab for prototyping and another for biotechnological development, as well as spaces for selected startups.

“One of the things we want to do is focus on developing the community and science- and technology-based entrepreneurship.

“This shouldn’t only come from our labs and researchers but also from our communities, students, professors, and alumni,” he remarked.

Finally, he said that he expects it to be a point of reference for developing new ideas focused on applied innovation and technology.
