The dean of the Tec’s School of Engineering and Sciences (EIC), Manuel Zertuche, took part in the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Honduran Government and the European Union to support the Honduras 2020-2050 National Decarbonization Plan.
The director of the EIC shared his pleasure in working side by side with the University of Texas at Austin on this initiative to chart the scientific and technological path towards a successful energy transition.
The contribution of these universities seeks to simultaneously develop supply mechanisms and undertake feasibility studies with which to sustain the socioeconomic environment of the Central American country.
“It’s very important for Honduras to take the decision to begin a sustainable clean energy transition, which also promotes climate action and improved quality of life for its inhabitants,” shared Manuel Zertuche, the dean of the EIC.
The Tec director explained that all the actions required to successfully carry out this transition must have basis in scientific and technological evidence, so that decarbonization in Honduras does not become delayed, and so it can be capitalized upon.
In this context, the EIC will make use of its abilities to create a renewable energy portfolio, estimate decarbonization scenarios (particularly in the transportation sector), and develop primary sector carbon sequestration inventories.
“It’s very important for Honduras to take the decision to begin a sustainable clean energy transition.”
“At the Tec, we’re honored to be able to develop a project road map for the future to construct the decarbonization plan; we’re taking on this challenge to define objectives, goals, and deadlines based on the science and relevant technological aspects,” said the dean of the EIC.
Some aspects of the collaboration
- Coordinate and delegate efforts to develop a multi-faceted climate action plan involving government, industries, and sectors of Honduran society.
- Prepare a road map based on the results of the 2020-2050 National Decarbonization Plan.
- Compile the scientific background necessary to support the 2020-2050 National Decarbonization Plan.
- Undertake a feasibility study of solutions through market mechanisms, as well as financial feasibility studies for the 2020-2050 National Decarbonization Plan.
