Tecnológico de Monterrey and the UNAM are to jointly promote the 17 goals of the UN (United Nations) Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

At an official event held at the Palace of Mines in Mexico City, both institutions presented the establishment of the Mexican chapter of this network together with Jeffrey Sachs, director of this area in the UN.

The initiative is part of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including goals that range from quality education and gender equality to climate action and the eradication of poverty.

“These 17 goals will become an important force in Tec de Monterrey and our country,” assured Dr. Guillermo Torre, Rector of TecSalud, in his speech.

“The network’s goal is to achieve sustainable life, a healthy environment without poverty, and to make progress towards a different development model. Everyone has to get involved in this task,” said Enrique Graue, Rector of the UNAM.

For his part, Jeffrey Sachs stressed the relevance of seeking sustainability as a society: “Having sustainable communities triggers an increase in wellbeing, better quality of life and happiness.
