At the beginning of his term eight years ago, Salvador Alva was given one hour to decide if he wanted to be president of Tec de Monterrey

When he consulted his wife, she said, “Didn’t you want a social project? Isn’t this your project? I support you one hundred percent.”

With this and other anecdotes, Salvador Alva recalled his time as president of Tec de Monterrey during the 2020 Board of Directors Meeting.

“Today I feel moved more than ever. We’ve built a dream together and here’s the result. It’s been an honor and a privilege to take this path with you over these years,” he said.

Some of the initiatives that the president mentioned included implementation of the Tec21 Educational Model, DistritoTec, together with inclusion and equality initiatives, as well as Leaders of Tomorrow, which provides 100% scholarships to talented young people.

“How did we manage to achieve all this in such an extensive and complex institution, which also has so much talent? By highlighting the two central elements in the culture we’ve constructed,” said the president.

“We recognized that our only true clients are our students and we’ve built a non-authoritarian culture of collaboration with one goal in mind: to develop talent,” he added.

Salvador Alva thanked the Tec Community and his family, as well as mentioning the work of each member of the team of directors who accompanied him during his tenure.

He also talked about the Tec’s 2030 vision, focused on Leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship for human flourishing.

He also listed some of the challenges the institution will face in the future and the importance of universities to the growth of Mexico.

He also affirmed that the Tec is considered one of the most reliable institutions in the country and has the opportunity to make a positive impact upon Mexico.

“The Tec is recognized and admired as one of the best universities. We’re a leading actor with considerable influence on the world’s great issues,” he said.

On an occasion that included students singing a song and a video of thanks, there was also a moment of special recognition.

Members of the Tec Community took to the stage along with members of the president’s management team.

After a round of applause, Salvador Alva ended his speech by inviting everyone to be decisive actors in the social transformation of Mexico.

“Whatever we do, let’s do it with passion, with commitment, with generosity and certainly with a new and greater dose of solidarity, responsibility and a dedication to service and empathy,” he concluded.
