The Tec and Barcelona have signed an agreement so Tec students can participate in outreach activities and company visits, and even receive job offers.
Tec de Monterrey and Barcelona City Council have signed a collaboration agreement allowing students to participate in outreach projects launched by the institution’s professors.
The signing of the agreement establishes joint activities, ventures, outreach trips, teacher exchanges, company visits and other activities.
“Normally, we have great links with universities. However, a city that has it all is a great opportunity for student talent during a formative stage.
“The goal is to make many of the activities that we’ve been thinking and dreaming of come true. Some of them will happen very soon because want to make this project bear fruit quickly,” explained Rashid Abella, Vice President of the Tec for the Mexico City Region, who signed the agreement.
The agreement includes collaboration projects for the whole of the Tec de Monterrey community, said Abella, who added:
“What we’re planning today as an institution with the government of Barcelona will drive us to do things of value.”

An agreement with a city
The Director of the Tec’s Business School Division in Mexico City, Óscar Fonseca, explained that the agreement aims to strengthen ties between Tec de Monterrey and the Barcelona city government.
“We’re aiming to strengthen the bonds of friendship and collaboration between both parties. The idea is to undertake a very broad range of activities with Barcelona.
“We already have academic and business agreements, but this is a broad agreement allowing us to renew bonds that have been lost,” he said.
He shared that the agreements Tec de Monterrey currently has are with universities, not cities as in this case.
Jobs for Tec graduates in Barcelona
Pau Solanilla, Commissioner of Promotion for Barcelona City Council, said that the city has more than 15,000 technology-related jobs. They hope some of these vacancies will be filled by Tec graduates in the future.
“Barcelona is a small city of 1.6 million inhabitants, and we have 15,000 technology-related jobs. We’re open to receiving future Tec de Monterrey graduates and entrepreneurs.
“This visit is the start of something that will make both parties very happy,” said the commissioner.
He also explained that Barcelona wants to become an open city, a learning ecosystem, and to focus on strategic sectors including the digital economy, creative industries, and the proximity economy.
The collaboration agreement was signed on the Mexico City campus by Pau Solanilla, on behalf of the Barcelona City Council, and Rashid Abella, representing Tec de Monterrey.
