The Tec is the only university in Mexico and Latin America to appear in this ranking and the only one from outside the United States to be listed in the undergraduate programs category.
For the fourth consecutive year, Tec de Monterrey has been ranked among the Top 10 universities offering entrepreneurial undergraduate programs in a ranking published by The Princeton Review.
The Tec was ranked 6th in “The Princeton Review: Top Undergraduate Schools for Entrepreneurship Ranking 2022,” one of the most prestigious university rankings according to the Universities in the USA website.
The Tec is the only university in Mexico and Latin America to appear in this ranking and the only one from outside the United States to be listed in the undergraduate programs category.
This ranking is one of the few to specifically evaluate entrepreneurship in almost 300 universities.
Since 1991, The Princeton Review has published an annual guide to the Best Colleges in which it lists and ranks the best colleges in different categories.
Shaping leaders with entrepreneurial spirit, a Tec commitment
David Garza, Rector and Executive President, said that the Tec’s entrepreneurial spirit has been one of its distinguishing features since its foundation.
“Today, the institution has an ecosystem in place that promotes the development of an entrepreneurial spirit throughout its community, as well as entrepreneurship focused on the creation of companies, technology-based startups, and social initiatives. We even offer academic programs in this area,” Garza said.
“It’s thanks to this approach that The Princeton Review has ranked us among the Top 10 in such an important ranking. We therefore renew our commitment to continue encouraging entrepreneurship through initiatives and projects with ever-greater impact,” he added.
The Tec Rector said that this commitment translates into generating value for its students and for the country.

Juan Pablo Murra, Rector for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at the Tec, said that receiving this type of news reflects the entrepreneurial spirit that the Tec faculty inspires, and which encourages students to become agents of change in society by creating value through innovation.
Murra highlighted that 61% of the Tec’s undergraduate students have taken at least one subject related to entrepreneurship in the academic year.
“In particular, the Tec21 Educational Model is made up of challenge-based learning that promotes the development of skills for facing current and future challenges. One of those skills is innovative entrepreneurship,” he added.
The Tec in The Princeton Review’s ranking
In 2014, Tec de Monterrey began to focus on external validation for its entrepreneurship strategy. During this process, the best rankings were identified and all possibilities for participation were explored.
During this process, it was determined that one of the best rankings in this area was the one that’s been compiled by The Princeton Review since 1991. Since then, the Institution has shared valuable information with this organization, enabling it to be ranked internationally.
In 2016, the Tec was ranked 23rd. Today, it’s been one of the 10 top ranked universities for several years.
What does this ranking system evaluate?
This year, the evaluation firm took into account the following indicators which allowed the institution to be in a leading position:
- Entrepreneurship courses offered by the school,
- Undergraduate students benefitting from entrepreneurial training,
- Companies started by graduates of entrepreneurial programs, and
- Faculty profile, among other variables
For the category of Entrepreneurship, the methodology used includes the review and analysis of information from each participating university in three general sections:
- Academics and Requirements
For this section, Tecnológico de Monterrey offered 80 subjects, two degrees promoting entrepreneurship, and special programs for students’ business projects, such as the iSemester.
iSemester is a program in which professional students from the Tec strengthen and develop their competencies through experiential learning experiences.
- Students and Faculty
This year, more than 700 professors have taught at least one class related to the subject. 62% of undergraduate students enrolled in at least one entrepreneurial subject, regardless of their professional degree.
- Outside the Classroom
This section analyzes data on the activities of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This year, it considered the efforts made by universities to support the entrepreneurial community.
More than 700 companies have graduated from incubation programs during the last five years and have received the support of more than a thousand mentors from the business sector through programs such as Enlace+, which offers scholarships to help grow innovative startups.
Entrepreneurship: part of the Tec’s DNA
For 78 years, Tec de Monterrey has instilled an entrepreneurial spirit in its 315,000 graduates.
The institution has several initiatives in this area, such as the Incubator Network, the Technology Park Network, the Entrepreneurial Challenge with a Human Touch, and INCmty, its entrepreneurship festival.
The ninth INCmty festival took place from November 8 to 10, 2021, and focused on the development of disruptive ideas and businesses in the region.
There is also a high level of student participation in competitions held by global organizations and institutions. The highlight of this was the prestigious Hult Prize, awarded by the UN and former US President Bill Clinton, in which the Rutopía project won first place and a million dollars in 2019.
