The World Resources Institute (WRI) named DistritoTec as one of the five finalist projects for the Ross Prize for Cities.

This is a global competition which focuses on initiatives having a positive impact on communities while teaching people how to live and thrive in a changing climate.

The theme of the 2020-2021 competition was to recognize projects addressing two problems: urban inequality and the climate crisis.

262 proposals were received from 160 different cities in 54 countries.

DistritoTec was established in 2014 to improve the environment around the Monterrey campus.

A group of 119 international specialists were responsible for conducting the initial evaluation and selecting 5 finalists from the 262 applications.

DistritoTec is the only Mexican project to be named as a finalist in this competition.

The other finalist projects come from Rosario (Argentina), Ahmedabad (India), Nairobi (Kenya), and London (UK).

Each finalist project will receive an award of 25,000 dollars.

Through the Prize, WRI aims to inspire people to continue promoting projects that change the world and transform cities.

Since 2014, DistritoTec has been an example of both good governance and collaborative action: generating events, transforming public spaces, promoting improved sustainable mobility, and strengthening and building citizen committees.

All these efforts advance the dream of turning the area into an Innovation District.

In the coming months, the five finalist projects will be evaluated by a panel comprising thinkers and urban leaders from outside of the WRI, who will announce the winning project in May 2021.
