Tec students win international music competition

Leobardo Preciado Rojas and Bernardo Preciado Rojas, students at the Tec’s State of Mexico campus, have respectively won first place and an honorable mention at the Medici International Music Competition 2022.

Based in London, the Medici International Music Competition accepts applications from all nationalities and ages in the categories of piano, voice, and chamber, string, and wind instruments.

Leobardo participated in the percussion specialist category, while Bernardo competed in the violin youth talent category.

Both students have taken part in the competition since 2021, when Leobardo achieved third place and Bernardo got a special mention.

Artistic journey

Leobardo and Bernardo explained the reasons why they stand out for their musical talent.

“I think I managed to stand out because of my dedication and perseverance, and the support of my teachers. Music is like any discipline: you have to dedicate time and effort to it,” explained Leobardo.

“When I saw the results of the competition, I felt very excited and proud of all the hours I had invested. I began to understand that rewards require hard work,” said Bernardo.

Both students have studied music from an early age and taken part in different competitions, such as Tec Talent, the Young Artist Music Award and the ‘Las Notas de Guido’ international contest.

They are also members of the State of Mexico campus chamber orchestra and company of musicians.

The impact of music

The young artists emphasize that music requires constant dedication and attention to detail, sharing the motivations behind their effort.

“You can help people through music to a certain extent. Sometimes what’s already written isn’t enough, so you create something new to express what you feel and give the audience something to identify with.

“I think that music can often go unnoticed, but it has a big impact. It’s a constant support,” shared Leobardo.

“I have a huge passion for music. The most important thing for me, more than getting awards, is just to be in contact with music by listening to it or playing it,” mentioned Bernardo.

Both students have future projects planned and expressed their excitement to participate in more competitions and to continue developing their musical talent.

“I have realized that I have an opportunity. If I work twice as hard, I can aspire to a higher level and further recognition.

“Being at the Tec has opened many doors for me and my music, and I want to achieve more,” concluded Bernardo.
