The winning team wants to contribute by creating a social and structured space.
Alejandro Cárdenas Ramírez and Amairani Valdez Segura, both students at Tec de Monterrey’s Toluca campus, have won third place at the seventh ‘Inspireli Awards,’ an international architecture competition.
Founded by the Czech Technical University in Prague, the competition has global sponsors and is considered one of the most important in architecture. It focuses on supporting undergraduate student projects from around the world.
What’s more, the contest is judged by 862 architects, representing 126 different countries.
Working with their professors Alejandro Pimentel and Víctor Lechuga, they presented their project entitled “Metepec Market” in December 2021. The winners were announced in September of this year.
In this project, they wanted to contribute to the creation of a convivial and structured space for commercial activities at this popular market.
According to the winners, this market would cover the shops and stalls and create a structure allowing for greater accessibility. It would also provide unloading lanes for goods, as well as improved hygiene conditions through an organized sanitary network.
A competitive attitude
The team shared that they decided to submit their proposal as a result of publicity on social networks and their thirst for competition.
“We realized that the level we were at was very competitive,” Amairani said.
“The level we were at was very competitive,” she added.
Finally, even though Alejandro didn’t have any experience participating in international contests, his knowledge of technological programs and security gave him the skills necessary to be able to compete.
That’s why the Architecture student wanted to share his advice with the community at large on how to get involved in projects like these.
“Develop your interest in what you want to do; commit to it; and look for opportunities for your ideas. Don’t hold back,” Alejandro said.
