Establishing academic and business points of contact between Tec de Monterrey and Romanian universities was the reason for the visit to the Tec by the Ambassador of Romania to Mexico, Mario Lazurca.

The diplomat met with university directors, including David Garza, President and Rector of Tec de Monterrey, and Juan Pablo Murra, Rector of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at the Tec.

The reasons for the visit are very simple: to establish points of contact, especially in two specific areas: academic and business.

Our objective is to strengthen cooperation and exchanges between universities and companies in Mexico and Romania,” said the ambassador.

Lazurca pointed out that Mexico has an excellent reputation in Romania, and that the country is in the process of internationalizing its universities.

In order to do so, this European country has launched various international exchange scholarship programs.

For example, we have two types of agreement: a bilateral cooperation agreement and a cooperation agreement within the framework of the Erasmus+ program,” he explained.

Erasmus+ is a program promoted by the European Union to support the education of young people from Europe.

To this end, Juan Pablo Murra explained that one of the first steps will be to talk with like-minded Romanian universities to establish exchange mechanisms.

We have a huge demand from students wanting to go on exchange. This could mean that, if it hasn’t happened in the past, it’ll happen now,” said the Rector of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at the Tec.

Broadening horizons in Mexico and Central America

The Ambassador of Romania to Mexico and Central America pointed out that Spanish has become very popular in his country, which is why they are looking to improve relations with countries that speak it.

We have to diversify: it’s not enough just to work with Spain. That’s our goal. We’ve looked for partners in countries that are important in the region and Mexico is one of these,” he explained.

They also intend to open a permanent support office in the city of Monterrey in order to facilitate relations and exchanges.

During his time at the Monterrey Campus, the ambassador visited the Emerging Technologies Laboratory (Mostla), located on the first floor of the Monterrey Campus Rector’s Office, and also learned about the DistritoTec project.

Lazurca was accompanied by Razvan Pircalabescu, economic and commercial affairs advisor, and Protasio Rodríguez, who assists the Romanian Embassy in the north of Mexico.
