Congressman Tony Gonzales visited Tec de Monterrey to develop collaboration between the institution and the state of Texas.

The congressman, who represents Texas’ 23rd district, met with David Garza, Rector and President of Tec de Monterrey, as well as with directors of the institution in order to get to know them and establish an academic collaboration.

I know there has to be a better relationship between the United States and Mexico, particularly between San Antonio, where I live, and Monterrey.

There’s a natural connection there. Perhaps it needs more support, but I’m very excited about this trip,” Gonzales said.

Strengthening relations between Tec Monterrey and San Antonio

Monterrey and San Antonio have many things in common and can create an ecosystem in which educational centers are a key element, said the congressman, who has 20 years of military experience.

Education is essential to everything. We need to talk about growth, development, and all the other factors,” Gonzales said during his visit.

David Garza, Rector and President of Tec de Monterrey, said that the aim was to strengthen the relationship in academic, research, and student mobility areas.

We also share a belief that education is important in many ways, especially for society,” he said.

The rector pointed out that collaborations are already in place with Texan universities such as the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in fields such as cybersecurity, data science, and business.

Juan Pablo Murra, Rector for Higher Education at the Tec, said that the institution has provided opportunities for its students to participate in an exchange program with the United States for many years.

Our degrees are valid in the United States, and 50 to 60% of our students participate in an exchange program at some point during their studies. A large number of them go to the United States,” he said.
