For the first time, Tecnológico de Monterrey has a total of 21 disciplines ranked in the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 this year.
In one year, the university went from having 16 to 21 disciplines in various topics on this ranking of the work of universities from the QS Quacquarelli Symonds university evaluator.
The institution is now among the top 40 universities in the world for Business and Administration and also remains among the top 100 for Mechanical Engineering.
The Tec also climbed 30 places in another of the 5 main areas of study that the ranking uses, reaching 56th place in the world for Social Sciences and Administration.

The Tec also improved in 3 major study areas
The Tec also climbed in 3 of the 5 major study areas evaluated by the ranking, because of the mixture of results across different disciplines.
- In Social Sciences and Administration, it climbed 30 places, and is now ranked 56th in the world (top 100).
- It rose by 16 places to 129th place (top 150) in Engineering and Technology.
- In Arts and Humanities, the university climbed 20 places to 224th place.
The Tec’s growth in this world ranking of degrees and disciplines
The report includes 51 disciplines across five areas: Arts and Humanities, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Administration, and Engineering and Technology.
The Tec was ranked in 34 disciplines that met the requirements for this year’s ranking, 7 more than last year when 21 were ranked.
“It is with great pride that 21 disciplines have been included in this ranking in these unprecedented times, when education is undergoing a complete transformation.
“It’s a sign that we’re on the right track”, said Neil Hernández, associate vice-rector for Research and Technology Transfer at Tec de Monterrey.
In addition, Ben Sowter, senior vice president of QS Quacquarelli Symonds, said that: “Tec de Monterrey continues to improve in various disciplines. It has now established itself as one of the top 50 universities for Business and Management studies.
This is particularly impressive given that this is one of the most competitive disciplines we evaluate in the ranking.”
What does the QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluate?
The ranking takes into account 4 criteria:
- An academic reputation survey
- An employer reputation survey
- Research citations per paper
- The H-Index
The QS ratings takes into account a review of more than 13.9 million published articles, 81 million citations, and 150 thousand surveys answered by academics and employers.
1,453 universities from 157 countries were evaluated in this edition of the QS World University Ranking by Subject.
