Tec Review is 2021 SPD Awards finalist

Tec Review magazine is a finalist for the 56th Society of Publication Designers (SPD) awards, which recognize the best editorial design from around the globe, having three publications nominated in two categories.

Tec Review is the first Mexican magazine to win this award, considered the “Oscars” of design, consecutively in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

This year’s SPD Awards nominations are in the Photography and Design categories, for publications from Photography Coordinator Berenice Rodríguez and Creative Director Manelik Guzmán.

The work nominated for the Design category was Cities in the Air, published in June 2020, which addresses the challenges urban planners face when constructing compact cities.

The second nomination, in the Photography category’s Spread/Story subcategory, was for the Flight Pattern publication.

The photo gallery, published in July 2020, shows photographs of bird flight paths from Spaniard Xavier Bou.

Finally, the third nomination was for the Look in the Arena of Fights photo portfolio published in the September-October 2020 issue.

This publication took a look at the world of Mexican wrestling through the eyes of photographer Lourdes Grobet.

The results will be announced at the 56th Annual SPD Awards ceremony, which will be held virtually at the end of May or the beginning of June, and the winners will receive either a Gold Medal or Silver Medal.

Tec Review achievements

Tec Review has been nominated on four occasions and has won on three of them.

In 2019, the publication won a silver medal for the photo portfolio In Colima, Mexico. The Volcano of Fire, by photographer Sergio Tapiro, was published in the 15th (January-February 2018) issue.

A year earlier, in 2018, it won a gold medal for the story from photographer Pedro Mera called Mexico Stands, which was published in the 14th (November-December 2017) issue.

Tec Review is a Tec de Monterrey publication that focuses on innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. It forms part of TEC MEDIA -alongside CONECTA- and is a project coordinated with the Tec by Ana Torres Moya.
