Tecnológico de Monterrey has been given the Equity Award by WholeSchools for its academic excellence and outstanding work in favor of fairness.

WholeSchools is one of the most prestigious institutions in the area of international education thanks to its work developing innovative pedagogical frameworks. Its motto is “teaching and learning should nurture the mind, heart, body, and soul.”

Each year, this organization holds a ceremony in which it rewards educational organizations that are highly committed to the wellbeing of their communities, adopt cutting-edge programs, and implement international certifications.

Education has been considered a vital activity since the beginning of time, as it’s “one of the most effective tools for social change out there,” said Gabriela Glez Pacheco, the Program Director at WholeSchools.

Andrea Ferrari, WholeSchools CEO, virtually bestowed the award on Dr. Ludivina Herrera, Regional Academic Director of the Management and Leadership Department at the Tec’s Business School.

“One of our goals is to establish the individual as the focal point of all our actions, and equity is essential to achieving this because it means that the entire community is focused on respect for human dignity,” Dr. Herrera said during the ceremony.

“That’s why we have the Center for the Recognition of Human Dignity, which ensures that the entire community practices values of inclusion and equality, the pieces of the puzzle for making our institution transform toward equity,” she added.

She quoted Confucius, the famous Chinese philosopher: “If you are planning for a year, sow rice. If you are planning for a decade, plant trees. If you are planning for a lifetime, educate children.”

Numerous experts from the United States, Egypt, China, Spain, Puerto Rico, and other countries joined the ceremony to highlight the importance of teaching.

They described educational excellence as an act of social justice that encourages equal opportunities and respect for diversity in the classroom.

Ludivina pointed out that at the Tec, educational excellence is experienced through the selection of students with high human potential, a cutting-edge educational model, numerous training partners, and a team of professional educators.

“(The Tec) is a whole learning ecosystem in which students can transform themselves to eventually change their environment, their country, and the world,” she declared.

Education during lockdown

Throughout the ceremony, those present reflected on the challenges faced by education due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This situation has changed the way we look at the objectives teaching should pursue, and not only that, but also the most appropriate means, resources, and strategies to achieve those goals,” said Gabriela Glez.

Finally, WholeSchools congratulated all the institutions that have continued their distance-learning programs despite the difficulties.

“Today, we’re talking about schools of excellence, and one of the characteristics of this type of school is having continued with co-curricular activities,” highlighted Mark Webber, a guest expert from Colombia.

“Congratulations to the institutions which realized that they’re an invaluable resource for students, even more so during the Covid pandemic, when they’ve become a source of wellbeing and an excellent outlet for students’ energy,” he added.

Tec de Monterrey implemented LiFE@Home as an adaptation of the face-to-face Student Leadership and Education programs for student experiences.

This initiative has more than 1,200 activities and was launched during the emergency in order to ensure continuous learning, as well as the mental and physical health of its community.
