“I never gave up; my family told me that I was obsessed with tennis, but they didn’t understand that I was giving my all to fulfill my goals and dreams.”
At just 18 years of age, this former PrepaTec student has managed to win a full scholarship at a foreign university through her effort and dedication.
Her name is Jazmín Zamorano, a talented tennis player for more than 10 years who has managed to get noticed in the world of sports. Thanks to that, she’s won a scholarship at the University of Nebraska, in Kearney.
With more than 10 years of experience, Jazmín has been trained by different institutions such as the Ciudad Obregón Country Club, the Technological Institute of Sonora (ITSON), and Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Taking up more than 60% of her daily activities, her sports career has taken her to local, regional, and national competitions, and finally given her the opportunity to begin a professional career abroad completely free of charge.
“It’s without a doubt my greatest achievement; since I was little, I knew, and was convinced that, one day I would win a 100% scholarship. Thanks to the example of my older brother, I finally succeeded,” said Jazmín.
Zamorano stood out at PrepaTec as one of the few tennis players on campus, and also for being so disciplined about and dedicated to what she does.
During her three years of high school at PrepaTec, Jazmín, along with her team, managed to get noticed and establish herself in Inter-campus tournaments.
When Jazmín was asked how she felt on having achieved this, she replied that she was very happy since, in addition to representing the achievement of her greatest goal, it represented all the effort and perseverance that she has had to develop since she was seven years old.
“It wasn’t at all easy. Six months had gone by since I uploaded my video and almost no coaches had contacted me. I started playing more tournaments to improve my ranking,” shared the athlete.
“In November 2019, I uploaded another video. That’s when the coaches started looking for me, and one of them offered me a 100% scholarship,” added the tennis player in an interview for CONECTA.
Zamorano attributes all her achievements to her incredible performance and total dedication to the sport. However, she admits that PrepaTec was also one of the most important factors during these last three years in becoming the person she is today.
“I used to have the mindset that tennis was everything in my life, but when I started at PrepaTec, I realized that academic and personal skills were just as important as my sports career,” explained Jazmín.
“Jazmín has always been a winner; ever since she was little, she has achieved a lot in all the activities she has taken part in. Determination, focus, and passion are what define her,” said Pablo Benítez, athletic and sports coordinator for the Ciudad Obregón campus.
Finally, Jazmín Zamorano, the talented tennis player, dedicates the following words to all those young people who want to follow in her footsteps and move into the world of sport:
“Never stop fighting for what you want, no matter how much they tell you other things; never give up and never lose faith, even when there is uncertainty: never lose hope,” concluded Zamorano.
Jazmín will begin her college career at the University of Nebraska in August 2020.
