Before coming to Mexico, IKEA has reached an agreement with the Tec de Monterrey for 17 students to work on a project for this company.
IKEA is a Swedish company dedicated to the design of homes, furniture and decorative objects. It hopes to open its first branch in Mexico in three years.
“We are working to get to know what Mexican families are like. For us it was very exciting because IKEA is a company that pays attention to design, they work collectively to reach a goal together,” said Diego Pérez, an Industrial Design student.
IKEA launched a call to choose a university in order to carry out research work.
“Our professor José de la O and the School of Architecture, Art and Design participated in an IKEA scouting to see which university the company would partner with for this project. They ended up choosing Tec de Monterrey.
“They put out a call in Mexico City and the State of Mexico to recruit 17 students who would work the entire semester on this project, choosing students with a broad portfolio,” he added.
For Diego, the options offered by the Tec de Monterrey to work directly with companies is a great opportunity to develop professionally, before graduating.
“When I entered PrepaTec, I saw all of the opportunities that the institution offers you. Maybe you won’t work for a company that you did a project with, but you will gain a lot of experience and knowledge.
“Despite my age, my portfolio and curriculum demonstrate knowledge of my career and how I can develop myself,” he concluded.
