One of the founders of a company that has developed a diabetic foot cream is among the 17 Mexicans selected for a program for enterprising scientists in the United Kingdom.

SCICORE Medical, founded by two research professors and a former Tec student, represents the Tec School of Engineering and Sciences in “Leaders in Innovation Fellowships” (LIF).

This initiative is promoted by the Royal Academy of Engineering to strengthen the means for scientists to obtain private capital funding.

This cream contains active ingredients generated through biotechnological processes that stimulate cell migration and division, thereby favoring new blood vessels and preventing infections.

The Royal Academy of Engineering LIF program seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of enterprising scientists.

THE VISIT

José Manuel Aguilar, a research professor at the Tec, received training and mentoring from entrepreneurial experts in London.

As part of these activities, he had the opportunity to visit the Google campus for startups in London.

Furthermore, he was received by Ambassador Aureny Aguirre O’Sunza, head of Business at the Mexican Embassy in the United Kingdom.

“An invaluable advantage of the program is the network of contacts, not only with investors of all kinds, but with companies, universities, associations and all sorts of groups.

“Here, we’re given training by mentors from all over the world, many of whom already have successful companies in the marketplace, some of which are unicorn companies,” said this academic from the Tec.

THE CREAM

At the moment, the formula for the cream is undergoing a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) process, a patent and intellectual property application in the United States, and the intellectual property is about to be expanded to other countries.

Currently, there are 70 documented cases in which this innovation has saved patients from amputations due to certain clinical conditions.

The SCICORE Medical company was founded by Tec professors José Manuel Aguilar, Jorge Alberto Carrasco and Cuauhtémoc Licona.

It is currently valued at 100 million dollars.

After receiving the first investments, it is expected that the company could become a unicorn company within 18 months.

A unicorn company is one that is valued at more than a billion dollars within the first three years.

The LIF program is backed by the Intersectoral Committee for Innovation and co-funded through the Ministry of Trade (SE) Sectorial Innovation Fund and the Newton Fund.

It is also coordinated with the United Kingdom in Mexico, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the United Kingdom chapter of the MX Global Talent Network.
