Tec de Monterrey has been ranked among the top four universities in Latin America and as the top university in Mexico in the most recent regional rankings from international evaluation firm Quacquarelli Symonds.
In the 2024 QS World University Rankings: Latin America and The Caribbean, the Tec came in second place among private universities in Latin America.
Compared to last year, the Tec went from a total score of 94.7 in these rankings to 95.4, being the #1 university in Mexico for the fifth year in a row out of the 63 educational institutions evaluated in the country.
It scored highest on the Employer Reputation metric, placing the institution at fifth place in these rankings.
Tec de Monterrey and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which holds seventh place, are the only Mexican institutions in the Top 10 for these rankings.
Recognizing the effort of the Tec community
These rankings are some of those produced by renowned British firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds Limited, which evaluates the world’s top higher education institutions.
Published annually since 2011, the QS Latin America University Rankings highlight the top universities in Latin America and rank aspects related to the impact of education and faculty research, reputation, and quality.
The methodology is slightly different from that used for the QS World University Rankings (WUR), as it has been adapted to meet regional needs, with additional criteria for more in-depth comparison.
“I’m very satisfied that Tec de Monterrey is celebrating its 80 years and keeping its place in rankings such as the QS World University Rankings: Latin America and The Caribbean,” said Guillermo Torre, Vice President of Research at Tec de Monterrey.
“It’s a recognition of the efforts of the Tec community and the commitment that the Institution has made to research as a source of opportunities and innovative solutions for the economic, social, and environmental development of our country,” added Torre Amione.

- Citations per Paper (10%)
- Web Impact (5%)
- Student-Faculty Ratio (10%)
- Staff with PhDs (10%)
- Papers per Faculty (5%)

Hernández Gress also pointed out that the Tec continues to be the number one university in Mexico in the Citations per Paper metric, by having several citations (9.9) for research papers above the average in Latin America (5.3).
