The CEO of Enterprise Singapore, Png Cheong Boon, paid a visit to Tec’s Monterrey campus on April 20 with the aim of exploring a partnership between Tec de Monterrey and Singapore.
One of the objectives of Enterprise Singapore, the governmental development agency, is to look for partnership opportunities for the country’s companies in different parts of the world.
“Many organizations in Singapore are looking to begin operations in Mexico, and the most important thing is to connect with Tec de Monterrey and collaborate with its graduates,” he said.
Tec directors, led by David Garza, rector and executive president of the Tec, spoke with the delegation from Singapore about opportunities for collaboration on issues such as innovation, startups, and student mobility.
“We want to strengthen relations between Mexico and Singapore (...) that’s why the visit to Mexico has to include Tec de Monterrey.”
The potential which Singapore sees in Mexico
Png Cheong Boon shared that they’re very interested in the manufacturing field, especially medical and semiconductor products, as well as trading food products.
He added that they are looking to promote startups in Singapore and pointed out that as the Tec is a university which produces high levels of talent, there is interest in promoting student mobility.
“Many businesses in Singapore are looking to begin operations in Mexico and I think that people are what matters most for opening offices. So, connecting with Tec and some of its graduates would help a lot.
“I think the Tec is very impressive. In fact, many of the members of staff at Enterprise Singapore have graduated from the Tec.”
Learning about educational innovation at the Tec
During the visit, Tec presented initiatives such as DistritoTec, an urban development program including security, sustainability, and improvement projects.
Educational innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and internationalization projects were also presented, as well as the Tec21 Educational Model.
This model is focused on learning through real-world challenges faced by companies and organizations in a flexible environment.
“At Tec de Monterrey, we try to plan for the future in order to provide an innovative education and student experience,” said David Garza.
“It’s possible to work with the Tec because of its educational and business model,” added Michael Fung, director of the Institute for the Future of Education at Tec de Monterrey.
“At Tec de Monterrey, we try to plan for the future in order to provide an innovative education and student experience.”
A link between Enterprise Singapore and INCmty, the Tec’s entrepreneurship festival (one of the most prominent in Mexico and Latin America), was also discussed.
“COVID caused changes and that’s why our focus isn’t only on innovation but also on diversifying markets, clients, and even supply chains: that’s why this visit makes sense.
“We want to strengthen relations between Mexico and Singapore (...) that’s why the visit to Mexico has to include Tec de Monterrey,” said Png Cheong Boon.
