Former Borrego Isaac Alarcón made his official debut for the Dallas Cowboys in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, in which his team lost 16-3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Alarcón became the first Mexican to play a game with the lone star team without having been educated in the United States.

"I feel like I had a good first game. There are always things to improve. But, thank God, I feel that we're on the right track," Alarcón said in the Spanish section of the Cowboys website.

The Mexican was in his new left guard position and participated in several offensive plays with the team.

That's how Alarcón began on his path to stay in the first team throughout the 2021 season.

A good official NFL debut

The Cowboys decided to kick for a field goal in the 7th minute of the first quarter, allowing Alarcón to come in with the special teams to protect the line of play.

Isaac, No. 60, came back in the second quarter as part of another field goal play and then formed part of multiple Cowboys offensives throughout the game.

Alarcón's debut was good, as he had some outstanding plays, said Sigifredo Treviño, Athletics and Sports Director for Monterrey Region.

This was his first time, his first opportunity, and the nerves and the pressure could have led him to make mistakes. I didn't see any of that.

"It looked great, and that means he felt ready. If his coach and the Dallas team feel the same way, I think we could see Isaac making history," he said.

He mentioned a block in the second quarter so running back Rico Dowdle could get to 1st and ten, or the knockdown he delivered to Henry Mondeaux early in the third period.

The Monterrey native had a picture of the Mexican flag on the back of his helmet. At 2 meters tall, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with his teammates on the Dallas offensive line.

An exciting debut

For Monterrey Borregos head coach Carlos Altamirano, his performance was fine for a first preparation match.

I'm happy to see him playing in the NFL, happy that he is fulfilling his dream, and what better way than by playing very well: he seemed like a veteran player making blocks and forward passes.

"I can tell you is that this is the beginning of a great career. He needs to keep working hard and focusing on next week. Hard work and dedication will mean he gets on the 2021 roster," he said.

The dedication Alarcón brings to his training sessions is what will take him far, said Jonathan Alderete, his offensive line coach at the Borregos.

For me, as Isaac's coach, it's the result of all our work at the Monterrey Borregos and the culmination of his effort. Isaac has an unparalleled work ethic. He does things exhaustively until there can be no room for error," he said.

The Dallas team will continue with its pre-season preparation matches, playing against the Arizona Cardinals in Phoenix next Friday, August 13th.

Alarcón, 23, played with Monterrey Borregos and was part of the team that won the CONADEIP Premier League in 2019

At the end of that same year, he was selected to participate in the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. He was selected by the Cowboys in early 2020.

Last year, he didn’t see any action, as the pre-season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
