Tec de Monterrey has launched a new digital platform on which the university shares more than 100 social impact projects developed by its community due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Its aim is to inform society about these initiatives so that people can take part in them.

The launch of the Social Impact Projects page took place in a live broadcast on Facebook in which it was reported that Tec seeks to put its academic, medical, and scientific capabilities at the service of the community through 5 core project concepts.

“The current crisis affects us all, in personal, work, and civic spheres, with the only certainty being that of unpredictability” said Alejandro Poiré, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Government at the Tec.

“This site was born out of this situation in order to unite the medical, academic, and outreach capabilities of Tec de Monterrey and put them at the service of Mexican society”.

During presentation of the platform, some of the projects in which Tec students and teachers have participated were revealed.

“We have seen that our potential to positively impact the community is exponential when we join forces and capacities with other members of society”, said Inés Sáenz, Vice President for Inclusion, Social Impact, and Sustainability at the Tec.

“The entire Tec community has shown a great deal of commitment and participation during this pandemic.”

CORE PROJECT CONCEPTS

The platform has 5 core project concepts, which are:

1. Projects which inform about, and contain, contagions

These came about in coordination with the authorities from the Nuevo León State government; in collaboration with platforms such as Unidos Podemos; and from research projects on the evolution of the disease in Mexico, such as the MexiCOVID-19.mx platform and the “Disease, Infected, Recovered” model, to name but a few.

2. Health care and prevention projects,

These refer to the design and donation of medical and protective equipment, the contingency plan for the expansion of hospitals, educational resources, and research protocols implemented to treat the disease, as well as the use of convalescent plasma.

3. Economic reactivation and social activation projects

These highlight the creation of interdisciplinary groups that seek to generate solutions to the needs of companies and entrepreneurs both during and after the pandemic.

4. Academic projects

These provide information on solutions that contribute to economic recovery, as well as educational resources such as manuals and platforms ensuring academic continuity.

5. Integrated development projects

These seek to provide informative materials on the importance of mental health through programs like Cuida tu Mente and online volunteer campaigns. There are also literary and writing workshops available from home.

The main objective of the different core concepts is that Tec de Monterrey’s partners can join each of the social impact projects that the Institute has launched, in order to increase efforts and, thereby, build possibilities for a better future.

“At the Tec what sets us apart is our resilience, innovative vision, and social commitment. That’s why it is key to create and participate in initiatives which benefit our community, just as the creation of this new site does”, concluded Juan Pablo Murra, Rector of Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies at Tec de Monterrey.

The presentation was also attended on behalf of the Institution by Abigail Barreraby, a student from the School of Social Sciences and Government; Mario Adrián Flores, Vice President of the North Region campus; and Jorge Valdez, Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
