Tec de Monterrey is the #4 university in Latin America for the fifth consecutive year and the #1 in Mexico for the seventh consecutive year, according to the QS Latin America and the Caribbean University Rankings 2026 (QS LATAM 2026).
The Tec is also ranked second among private universities in Latin America.
Its highest-ranked category contributing to these positions is Employer Reputation, in which the Tec is #4 in Latin America.
“The results obtained in the QS LATAM 2026 reflect the strength of our commitment to excellent education, rigorous research, and high-impact innovation to transform lives and communities,” said Javier Guzmán, Executive Vice President of Research at the Tecnológico de Monterrey Education Group.
This year, 14 new universities were added to the rankings, bringing the total number of participating institutions to 492, of which 67 are Mexican (4 new).
The ranking categories
The Tec recorded a total score of 95.4 points this year across the eight categories which the ranking considers.
The 8 evaluation categories, with different weightings, are:
- Academic Reputation (30%)
- Employer Reputation (20%)
- Citations per Paper (10%)
- Papers per Faculty (5%)
- Faculty-Student Ratio (10%)
- Staff with PhD (10%)
International Research Network (10%)
Web Impact (5%)
The Tec’s strengths
The Employer Reputation category is where the Tec ranked highest, maintaining the same fourth-place position as last year.
Other indicators in which Tec de Monterrey stood out are:
Citations per Paper: Tec de Monterrey maintained ninth place.
The QS analytics firm notes that “Tecnológico de Monterrey produces the most impactful research in Mexico;” which is reflected in its regional ranking in the Citations per Paper category.
Academic Reputation: In this category, the institution maintained tenth place.
International Research Network: Tec de Monterrey rose 7 positions to ninth place.
Web Impact: The institution is ranked 22nd.
Faculty-Student Ratio: Tec de Monterrey is ranked 39th.
Staff with PhD: Tec de Monterrey is ranked 128th.
Papers per Faculty: In this category, the institution is ranked 157th.
